What Type of Braces Do I Need?

There are lots of different types of braces that you can use to correct your teeth and make sure they are properly aligned. At Ragan Orthodontics, our orthodontist in Dallas will help you to choose the correct type, but here we explore some of the different types of braces you can use for various problems.

Traditional

Traditional braces are produced from a high-grade steel and have a metal bracket that is attached to each tooth with a cement. These are linked together with an arch-wire that can be gradually tightened to pull the teeth into the correct position over time. These braces are easily visible but are highly effective for tooth alignment correction.

Ceramic

Ceramic works in the same way as traditional braces but are instead made from a clear ceramic. This durable but less visible material makes this a popular choice as it is less obvious to the naked eye.

Removable Aligners

Aligners like Invisalign® are removable so that they can be cleaned and so that you can eat more easily. Aligners are fitted to put pressure on the teeth and will be periodically changed to a tighter gauge to apply the correct pressure. These aligners can help you to correct your teeth without the need for a permanent fitting.
