Smiles for Your Whole Family
Dr. Ragan will give everyone in your house—kids, teens, and adults—a reason to smile.
Orthodontics for Kids
According to the American Association of Orthodontists, your child should have an orthodontic screening by age seven. This allows Dr. Ragan to determine:
- Whether your child will require orthodontic treatment
- The best time to treat your child
Why So Early?
The earlier Dr. Ragan can diagnose any orthodontic issues, the more time he’ll have to better treat your child and set their smile up for success.
If your child does require early treatment — or Phase 1 treatment — Dr. Ragan can give a solid foundation for your child’s smile.
By guiding erupting teeth into more favorable positions, preserving space for permanent teeth, and better preventing any protruding front teeth from fracturing, Dr. Ragan can reduce the likelihood that more complex issues will develop.
He can also:
- Regulate the width of the upper and lower dental arches
- Create space for permanent teeth
- Correct bite issues, such as underbite, overbite, or crossbite
- Avoid the need for permanent tooth extractions
- Reduce the likelihood of impacted permanent teeth
- Correct thumb sucking
- Eliminate abnormal swallowing or speech problems
Phase 2 Treatment
Even with early treatment, your child may still need braces or aligners later — during what is known as Phase 2 treatment.
That’s because Dr. Ragan can more easily and efficiently correct certain types of orthodontic problems during the adolescent and teen years when all of their permanent teeth have come in.
For some children, early intervention simplifies Phase 2 treatment by correcting jaw and bite issues early to ensure a more comfortable, streamlined smile journey.
What If Your Child Doesn’t Need Early Treatment?
Even if Dr. Ragan determines that your child doesn’t need Phase 1 treatment, they can still enjoy regular check-ups and stay connected to our office by joining our free Rock N’ Roam Club for Kids.
Our Rock N’ Roam program allows us to monitor your child remotely with an appointment every 6–8 months through the DentalMonitoring app so we can keep an eye on the progress of your child’s teeth, jaws, and overall smile as they grow and develop.
With the Rock N’ Roam program, we can catch new or developing problems early, create an intervention plan if necessary, and alleviate any disruptive, expensive treatment later on.

Why Orthodontic Health Matters at Every Age
Orthodontic care means more than a radiant newtsmile. It lays your foundation for lifelong oral health. Ignoring orthodontic issues can lead to orthodontic and health problems at any age.
Misaligned teeth can cause improper chewing, poor digestion, and malnutrition. Incorrect alignment makes cleaning your teeth harder, which increases your risk of cavities, gum disease, and tooth loss.
For children and teens, timely orthodontic care guides jaw growth, corrects harmful habits, and improves dental function. Adults benefit by preventing bone loss, enhancing oral health, and boosting confidence.
Don’t let misalignment issues impact your family’s health. Whether for children or adults, orthodontic health is crucial for overall well-being.
