How Does Invisalign Work?

The days of wearing traditional metal braces to fix your smile are over thanks to Invisalign®. This revolutionary treatment option is able to straighten your teeth using completely invisible aligners that are designed to fit comfortably in the mouth. You also do not have to worry about struggling to clean pesky food particles from the Invisalign® aligners because they can easily be removed prior to eating a meal. Wearing the invisible plastic trays will provide you with the confidence to smile during and after the treatment process, which simply can’t be achieved using any other form of braces.

The Invisalign® treatment process begins with your consultation appointment. Your individual case will be discussed in detail so you know exactly what to expect throughout the entire process. Your teeth will also be examined to determine if you are a candidate for Invisalign®.

Once it has been determined that you are a good candidate for Invisalign®, a customized treatment plan will be created specifically for your teeth. Pictures, X-rays and impressions of your teeth will be taken to create 3D digital images of your teeth. These images can be altered to show you exactly how your teeth will respond throughout the treatment process.

Once the consultation and treatment plan appointments are completed, you will receive your first set of Invisalign® aligners custom-made for your smile. To ensure your treatment goes as planned, you need to wear the aligners at all times. They can be removed to eat and brush your teeth, but they should be placed back on the teeth once you are done.

The aligners are designed to gradually move your teeth while you are wearing them. Once you have advanced to the next stage in the treatment plan, you will receive a new set of Invisalign® aligners. Each stage of treatment usually lasts about two weeks. Swapping out your aligners approximately every two weeks will continue until your treatment is complete.

Since the aligners are invisible and removable, you will be able to see the progress throughout the treatment process. Your smile will gradually improve until you end up with the perfect smile you have always dreamed about. The length of your Invisalign® treatment will be determined by the condition of your smile before you start wearing the aligners. The treatment time should be no longer than what you would experience with traditional metal braces.
